Fujifilm FinePix F50fd review Cameralabs introduction

CameraLabs reviews the Fujifilm FinePix F50fd and writes – ‘So if you were hoping the F50fd was the new high ISO performance leader, prepare for a disappointment. It may be no worse than rivals, but it’s certainly no better. Where the F50fd does score though is its no-nonsense approach to common activities like indoor flash photography. Like the F30 / F31fd before it, the new FinePix is a great indoor party camera, focusing and exposing faces perfectly and increasing the ISO (if you allow it) to record greater background detail. Outdoors it also performs well and offers manual control over the aperture and shutter for creative effects.’

PhotogrpahyBLOG reviews the Fujifilm Finepix F50fd and writes – ‘The Fujifilm Finepix F50fd is a frustrating beast. On one hand it offers a number of significant improvements when compared with the older F31fd, but on the other it takes a serious backwards step in terms of image quality, which is ultimately what every camera should primarily be judged by. We whole-heartedly gave the F31fd a Highly Recommended award one year back at the start of 2007, commenting “this compact camera still has no rivals in terms of low-light performance”. This time around, the F50fd is no longer the low-light leader that the F31fd was.’

Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd Review at Photoxels

Photoxels reviews the Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd and writes – ‘I prefer the image quality the Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd produces in a 18x wide-angle optical zoom camera. You won’t be wowed by the average shooting and AF performance, though. Some features important for the advanced photographers are missing: longer shutter speeds and RAW file format. I don’t do RAW that much so it’s presence and absence is not a deciding factor for me personally. What I foresee many will like is the S8000fd’s metering which seems to be cleverly calibrated to retain detail in the highlights so you’ll get less, if any, blown highlights without having to dial in a negative exposure compensation. The FinePix S8000fd is an impressive package and should meet most advanced photographers’ requirements. If you like the Fujifilm’s images (see the S8000fd photo gallery), then be sure to check out the Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd. I enjoyed using it very much and loved the pictures it captured.’

Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd Review at PhotographyBLOG

PhotographyBLOG reviews the Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd where they write – ‘You would have to purchase and carry at least a couple of lenses to cover the same distance with a DSLR camera. Thankfully Fujifilm have at last seen sense and included an image stabilization system, an essential feature given the massive zoom range on offer, and one that works very well in practice. This also means that Fujifilm can finally compete on a level playing field with their main super-zoom competitors, most notably the 18x models from Panasonic and Olympus. We haven’t reviewed the Panasonic FZ18 yet, but we much preferred the S8000fd to the Olympus SP-550 UZ, which offers a less usable interface and much poorer image quality. The Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd is therefore both our current ultra-zoom camera of choice, and a viable alternative to a DSLR camera.’

Fujifilm S5 Pro Review at PhotographyBLOG

PhotographyBLOG has a review of the Fujifilm S5 Pro and writes, “Overall the Fujifilm S5 Pro displayed an amazing lack of noise with regard to its images – delivering a performance at ISO 1600 that would be comparable to that from lesser cameras at ISO 400, with ISO 3200 equivalent to the kind of results normally seen at ISO 800. Which means, if you’re indeed shooting in low light without flash, as most social photographers worth their salt prefer working these days, the Fujifilm S5 Pro is capable of delivering results that are bang ‘on the money’.”

Fujifilm has introduced three new ultracompact cameras. The advanced 12-megapixel FinePix F50fd and the more basic 9-megapixel FinePix A920 and 8.2-megapixel FinePix F480 all sport 2.7-inch LCDs. The F50fd and F480 provide higher-resolution 230,000-pixel screens, while the A920 gets by with a low 115,000 pixels.

The most advanced model among the new releases, the F50fd uses Fuji’s Super CCD HR sensor, its RP Processor II, and an f/2.8-5.1, 35mm-105mm (35mm camera equivalent) 3x zoom lens. Most notable among its cutting-edge automatic features is Fuji’s second-generation face-detection technology, which the company claims can detect faces even in profile and from high and low angles.

Other functions include IrSimple connectivity for transferring images wirelessly to compatible devices and a new automatic redeye removal feature that works with the camera’s face-detection mode by evaluating every face detected in a shot and automatically removing redeye when it’s found. The F50fd also offers Fuji’s i-Flash flash metering system to adjust flash intensity and reduce blown-out areas in flash photos, as well as a new Portrait Enhancer function minimizes wrinkles and blemishes in-camera. The Dual Shot Mode takes two images in quick succession, one with and one without the flash, then allows the photographer to save the best one.
